Hard gel

ES: Hard gelDE: Hard Gel

Hard gel is a type of nail enhancement product that, once cured under a UV or LED lamp, becomes extremely strong and rigid, much like acrylic. Unlike "soft gels" or soak-off gels, hard gel cannot be dissolved with acetone; it must be filed off.

It's applied in layers over the natural nail or an extension (tip or form) and then cured in a lamp. Hard gel is perfect for creating durable nail extensions, adding significant strength to weak nails, or encapsulating designs. Its self-leveling consistency allows for ample working time to sculpt the desired shape before curing, giving technicians more control. A base coat is typically applied first, followed by the hard gel, and then a top coat for shine and protection.

You'd choose hard gel when superior durability and strength are paramount, especially for longer extensions or for clients with active lifestyles who need their nails to withstand significant wear and tear. It's an excellent alternative to acrylic if you prefer an odorless product with more flexibility during application, as it doesn't air-dry. Hard gel also tends to maintain a high-gloss finish and is less prone to yellowing over time compared to acrylic. It's ideal for those seeking a crystal-clear, long-lasting finish.

A common mistake is attempting to remove hard gel with acetone; this will not work and can damage the natural nail. It must always be professionally removed by filing. When applying, ensure you use thin, even layers to guarantee a thorough cure and prevent the "heat spike" sensation that can occur with thicker applications.
