Hygiene & disinfection

ES: Higiene y desinfecciónDE: Hygiene & Desinfektion

Hygiene and disinfection are the foundational pillars of a safe and professional nail salon environment. They encompass the practices and processes designed to thoroughly clean and eliminate most harmful microorganisms—like bacteria, viruses, and fungi—from your tools, surfaces, and hands, thereby protecting both your clients and yourself. This process works in two critical stages. First, hygiene involves physical cleaning: washing your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water before and after every service, wiping down your workstation, and removing any visible debris from tools. Second, disinfection is the crucial step where you use specific chemical agents, known as hospital-grade disinfectants, to inactivate or kill remaining microorganisms. For reusable tools, after cleaning, they must be fully immersed in the disinfectant for the manufacturer-specified contact time, then rinsed and dried. For surfaces, the disinfectant is sprayed and allowed to sit before wiping. You must rigorously implement hygiene and disinfection practices before every service, between each client, and at the end of the day. It's absolutely essential to prevent the spread of infections such as nail fungi or skin infections, which can be unpleasant and challenging to treat. Unlike mere cleaning, disinfection ensures that tools coming into contact with skin or nails are free of pathogens that could cause illness. It's your professional responsibility and key to building client trust, demonstrating that their health and safety are your utmost priority. A common mistake is confusing cleaning with disinfecting. Cleaning only removes visible dirt and debris, but it doesn't kill germs. You must always clean *before* you disinfect, as organic matter can inactivate disinfectants. Ensure your disinfectants are effective against bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions, especially regarding contact time, to guarantee their efficacy. Remember, isopropyl alcohol is good for sanitizing skin but isn't a hospital-grade disinfectant for tools.
