Polymer (acrylic powder)

ES: Polímero (polvo acrílico)DE: Polymer (Acrylpulver)

Polymer, commonly known as acrylic powder, is the finely milled, solid base ingredient used to create durable acrylic nail enhancements. Essentially, it's a powdered plastic that, when combined with a liquid monomer, undergoes a chemical reaction to form a malleable bead that can be sculpted onto the nail, creating strong extensions or overlays.

The magic happens when a nail technician dips their brush into the liquid monomer and then lightly touches it to the acrylic powder. This action creates a small, soft bead, or 'pearl,' as the monomer begins to dissolve and activate the polymer. This bead is then applied to the nail, and as the monomer evaporates and the polymer chains link together (a process called polymerization), it hardens into a strong, resilient nail extension or overlay, all without the need for a lamp.

Acrylic powder is primarily used for creating nail extensions, strengthening natural nails, or repairing broken ones. It's a fantastic choice for clients seeking exceptional durability and strength, as acrylic nails are known for their longevity and resistance to chipping. Unlike gel systems, acrylics air-dry, meaning no UV/LED lamp is required for curing, which can be a time-saver. It's also the go-to product for intricate 3D nail art and encapsulating glitter or designs, offering immense creative freedom.

A common mistake is using an incorrect monomer-to-powder ratio or mixing incompatible brands. This can lead to issues like poor adhesion, premature lifting, discoloration (especially yellowing), or nails that are too brittle or too soft. Always use a high-quality monomer specifically formulated for your chosen acrylic powder to ensure optimal performance and a beautiful, lasting finish.
